How the WOD Generator Works

Select a workout format (AMRAP, EMOM, For Time, or Chipper), pick your equipment, and choose RX, Scaled, or Beginner difficulty. The generator randomly combines movements from our curated pool — each format follows standard CrossFit time domains and rep schemes used in affiliate and garage-gym training.

Expert Note

Random WODs are useful for variety days, but they are not a replacement for a structured program. Use generated workouts on active-recovery or skill days, and follow periodized plans when preparing for a race or competition.

Workout Formats Explained

AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible): Fixed time cap, maximize rounds. Teaches pacing under fatigue.

EMOM (Every Minute On the Minute): Work starts each minute; leftover time is rest. Builds consistent output.

For Time: Complete prescribed rounds as fast as possible. Tests sustained power.

Chipper: Long single-round list of movements. Rewards smart partitioning and grip management.

Safety & Scaling

Always warm up before high-intensity work. Scale load and gymnastics progressions to your current capacity. Stop if you feel sharp pain, dizziness, or chest discomfort. Generated workouts are educational templates — not personalized coaching. See our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.

FAQ

Are these official CrossFit workouts?

No. PaceWOD is not affiliated with CrossFit, LLC. Workouts follow common mixed-modal patterns used in functional fitness training.

Where can I find tested workouts with pacing notes?

Visit our Workout Library for personally tested WODs with strategy, scaling, and documented results.

Sample Generated Workouts

Below are examples of what the generator produces — your output will vary based on equipment and format selection:

AMRAP 12 min
10 Kettlebell Swings (24/16 kg)
8 Box Jump Overs (24/20 in)
6 Push-ups
— Pacing target: 4+ rounds, steady transitions
EMOM 16 min (8 rds)
Min 1: 12/10 Cal Row
Min 2: 10 DB Thrusters (35/25 lb)
— Finish work in 40 sec each minute; 20 sec rest

Compare random output to structured benchmarks in our Workout Library — retest the same generated format twice and track whether round count improves at the same loads.

Building a Weekly Mix

A practical week for mixed-modal athletes: one heavy strength day, one generated AMRAP/EMOM for conditioning, one aerobic easy run (zone 2 via Zone 2 Calculator), one rest day. Random WODs fill the conditioning slot when you lack programming energy — not every slot in the week.
